Mary Ann Evans was an English writer who escaped the stereotype for female writers by using the pen name George Eliot. Her most famous novel, Silas Marner, was written in 1861 and is a story about a weaver named Silas who is an outcast in his town. His life takes a turn when his money is stolen. In the end, he adopts his beloved daughter and discovers that family is more important than money. Through this touching story the author brings out themes of satisfaction and family.
